Some of the most beautiful and attractive cages for your pet bird come in the form of a wooden birdhouse. This wood birdhouse can be made from wood like oak, pine, cherry, and maple.

Even with all these advantages of wooden birdhouses, there is something that should be considered before buying a wood birdhouse. For example, wooden birdhouses are very difficult to clean. They can prove to be very challenging to sanitize since germs and bacteria can get into the grains. If you own a parrot, it is better to avoid the wooden birdhouse, since parrots enjoy chewing the wood.

Building a Wooden Birdhouse

Materials Required to Build a Wooden Birdhouse

  1. Hammer
  2. Nails, which do not go through your wooden boards. Using gyprock nails is good
  3. Electric drills to pull screws.
  4. 1-inch screw
  5. Appropriate drill bit, or screwdriver to put the screw in
  6. A powerful electric drill to put the bird entrance hole in the center
  7. A one-inch drill bit to drill the hole
  8. A drill bit to drill holes for the string to hang it up
  9. A marker and ruler to find the center of the board
  10. Medium grit sandpaper to smoothen the rough edges of the wood
  11. A piece of a cereal box to cut to fit the end of the pot and cover up the holes in the birdhouse.
  12. Scissor to cut the cereal box
  13. A string to hang the birdhouse
  14. Glue guns
  15. Lost shells, pinecones, pebbles, or driftwood to decorate the birdhouse.

Instructions to Build a Wooden Birdhouse

  1. The first step in starting the project, get out a pot and a piece of a cereal box.
  2. Cut the piece of a cereal box, so that it fits inside the pot, and glue it into the inside areas.
  3. Get the two pieces of wood pieces nailed properly. You can also put some scrap pieces of wood at the bottom to protect the floor.
  4. On the back piece of the ruler, draw an X with the help of a ruler from corner to corner to find the center of the circle.
  5. Using the drill machine and one-inch bit, hold the piece of wood in place and put the little point of the drill bit in the center of the X. Make a hole in the center with the help of two pieces of wood. You can use sandpaper here, to smooth it off.
  6. The use of a drill depends on the string use. Drill two holes in the top to thread the string through it.
  7. Using the drill or a screwdriver, attach the pot to the back of the wood piece. They need two or four corners with screws in them and crack the pot.  
  8. Now, comes the fun part which you will enjoy doing! Decorate the front of your wooden birdhouse to invite your feathered friends using decorative materials like shells, driftwood, pinecones, pebbles, etc.
