Cardinal Bird House
Cardinals do not usually accept man-made birdhouses. They build their nests. A cardinal birdhouse is found amidst thickets, bushes, and such. To attract the cardinals in your backyard, you must make sure that the birds get ample nest-building materials. The nests are usually of cup shape and the ingredients that are used for building the nests are twigs, bark stripes, wood, straws, and such. The nests dangle in between the folk-shaped branch ends.
The cardinal is common in the eastern part of America and is mostly seen in the backyards of houses. The cardinal belongs to those species of birds whose population has increased due to the benefits of human habitation. They have multiplied in number as their chief source of food is bird feeders. It is easy to attract birds in your backyard but it would be rather difficult for you to watch them nest in man-made cardinal birdhouses as they prefer to build their nests.
Cardinal builds nests in regions that comprise thickets, bushes, shrubs, thick underbrush vines, and such. The nest is located 2 to 12 feet above the ground. Include some honeysuckle thicket, rose bush, and small evergreen shrubs in your garden as the bird enjoy nesting under such natural undergrowths.
To attract cardinals in your garden and to build a natural cardinal bird house you are recommended to include some feeders specially designed for the cardinals. These feeders usually are filled with sunflower seeds that are liked by the bird. This bird also likes to eat bread, nuts, berries, and peanut of butter mix. The presence of a bird bath will also attract the birds. Like other birds, the cardinals like to splash water all around.
Location of Cardinal Birdhouse:
- If you want to place a man-made cardinal birdhouse in the garden, you are advised to be careful about the location of the house. The cardinals are the birds of forests so they would prefer to live in places with a dense growth of vegetation. So, place the house in that part of your garden which has a maximum number of trees and shrubs.
- Do not try to place the house very close to the window pane. Though your activities inside your home will not affect the birds the bird is territorial, especially during the breeding season. If the male bird happens to see its reflection in the window pain, it can cause a lot of trouble. The bird thinking its reflection to be another cardinal would probably head-on with a deadly tiff. The fight can continue for several minutes and the bird would most likely give up after getting severely injured. So, never try to fix the cardinal bird house close to any window to enjoy a closer watch.
- If you want to watch their activities closely, using binoculars would be a good idea. You may even keep a miniature camera inside the house to study the entire process of brooding, hatching chicks, and rearing. While fixing the camera, make sure that the birds are not disturbed during the time of their nesting.
