Canary Lifespan

Canary Lifespan

Canary LifespanAre you looking and thinking of getting a bird as a pet? One common misconception about pet birds is that they live for hundreds of years and need to be willed to someone to ensure their care after you are gone.

While birds do live for quite a long time in the wild, their lifespan in a captive environment is very much shorter. The canaries come in two different types – the song canary which can sing and the type canary, which comes in beautiful colors. Below are some of the common pet birds and their average life span in the captive environment, if they receive superior care and a proper diet.

  • Cockatoo – 40 years
  • African grey – 25 years
  • Amazon parrot – 50 years
  • Conure – 15 years
  • Parakeet – 15 years
  • Love bird – 10 years
  • Canary – 15 years
  • Finch – 5 years

Certainly, a bird having a long life span should care for a longer period. However, many hidden dangers are lurking around which can cut your bird’s life. Birds are very fragile and need to care for properly for them to live a long life.

  5. Offer toys and stimulation: Canaries are active birds and need stimulation to prevent boredom and stress. Provide them with toys, perches, and objects to chew on, and rotate them regularly to keep your bird entertained.
  6. Monitor their health: Watch for signs of illness, such as changes in appetite, behavior, or droppings, and take your bird to a veterinarian experienced in bird care if you suspect a problem.
  7. Avoid stressors: Canaries are sensitive birds and can be stressed by changes in their environment or routine. Keep their cage in a quiet and peaceful location away from busy areas, and avoid exposing them to loud noises or sudden movements.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your canary bird lives a long and healthy life in your care.
