Bird House Plans

Bird House PlansMaking a house for your loving bird is very easy as long as you enjoy it! When you build a birdhouse, it is extremely important to know closely about the habitat of birds before stepping towards birdhouse plans. You should have detailed information related to the species, how to attract them, and where to locate your birdhouse.

Birds always face a difficult time finding a home. Many birds, like humans, are very particular about the specifications of their homes. By building a birdhouse, you will not only be helping to save the birds but the wildlife in your yard will make your home much more enjoyable.

Starting with the correct birdhouse plans is the first step involved in building a birdhouse. An invalid birdhouse plan never works properly. Bird’s house plans can range from very simple to extremely complex and are determined mostly by your style. If this is your first birdhouse plan, start with the most basic birdhouse plan and work up toward the more detailed feature of the birdhouse.

Bird House PlansWork on the Species of Birds and Attract Them

Once you determine your skill level, the next step involved in the birdhouse plan is to choose which bird you are going to attract. Birds are very particular about the specification of homes. The two main factors about which birds care are the inner dimension and the opening size.

The factors about which Birds do not care are color, design, style, or any other aesthetic details. You have to build a birdhouse, which suits the species located in your area and the species, which you will love to watch and enjoy. You will be surprised when you work on the different species’ habitat styles.

Bird House PlansHave a Hinged Roof

Providing a roof that is hinged on the sides is an effective way for you to clean the birdhouse easily, especially during the spring. Cleaning the roof hinge in the early weeks of March is a good idea. Try to use rust-proof hinges. Remember, that some animals such as raccoons can open an eye and a hook.

Provide Appropriate Ventilation in the Bird House

To provide proper ventilation, you can drill four holes that measure about one-fourth inch in every birdhouse bottom. Provide ventilation on the top of each birdhouse too.

Place a Roof

Provide a birdhouse roof of at least two inches on the front side of the birdhouse. This will ensure security and protect the bird’s house entrance from rain driven by the wind as well as prevent animals like cats from reaching inside the house. In addition, the sides of the birdhouse should be enclosed towards the floor; it will prevent the rain from getting inside the birdhouse.

Maintenance of Birdhouse

Every birdhouse involves maintenance. The birdhouse plans will greatly affect the ease of cleaning and maintenance of your loving birdhouse. The birdhouse plan that you select should address the maintenance issues for that species.

Space in Birdhouse

The birdhouse should be spaced properly if there are other birdhouses nearer. They should be placed approximately twenty-five feet far from each other. In the case of bluebirds, they require about three hundred feet of space. The space in between the birdhouse is very necessary to avoid conflicts.

Another reason for keeping space is that many birds are territorial and protecting the area around the bird’s nest, plays a vital role in the life of birds. The exceptions to these conditions are the birds like wood ducks, golden eye, and mergansers

Kind of Material Best for Birdhouse

The best material to be used to build a birdhouse is wood. Avoid using cartons of milk, can tins, and metal for building a birdhouse. Since these, materials may overheat and destroy the bird eggs as well as the young ones.

So in all, making or building a birdhouse is not just about hammering and pasting one material to another. It requires delicate care while making birdhouse plans.
